Every VCE student accompanied. Every teacher given time back.

Schanion joins attendance, lesson materials, study plans, marking support and family updates in one school. It guides students with clues instead of answers, and a teacher confirms everything that becomes a record.

Student response

A stakeholder is any group affected by a business. In this case the owner wants higher profit, but staff want job security, so the business should compare both and recommend one.

Evidence found against the rubric

  • Uses key terms correctly
  • Applies them to the case
  • Evaluates the options

Suggestion: evidence for 2 of 3 criteria. Not a record.

Final mark

For Victorian secondary schools, VCE Years 11 and 12. This is a working demonstration with a fictional school and eight people to sign in as.

See it in under two minutes.

A short film of what Schanion does for students, teachers, families and leaders. It has music and no narration, and a full text version sits underneath.

Read the film as text
  1. 0:00It is a Wednesday afternoon, 3:40 pm. A teacher re-keys the roll. A student is stuck on question 4. A parent wonders what happened this week. What if all of it were connected?
  2. 0:10Schanion, School Companion. A companion for every student. Time back for every teacher. For Victorian secondary schools, VCE Years 11 and 12.
  3. 0:17A companion that guides. When a student asks for the answer, it offers clues, feedback and then a fresh check. Mastery is recorded only from independent work.
  4. 0:29The whole VCE pathway: Business Management, Accounting, Economics and Legal Studies, Units 1 to 4, with English, General Mathematics, Biology and Psychology as well.
  5. 0:38A roll the teacher confirms. Check-in signals only suggest a state, and a teacher verifies and confirms. If a student is absent, a catch-up plan is built only from what the teacher shared. If nothing has been shared, it says so and never guesses.
  6. 0:52Marking support, never a mark without you. Evidence is highlighted against the teacher's rubric. The suggestion stays separate from the final mark, which the teacher sets. School-assessed coursework marks are off by default.
  7. 1:02A study plan that is kind: it plans around SAC dates, evening limits and rest days, and says what does not fit. Learning memory can be read, corrected and deleted by the student. XP is not mastery, and there are no streaks, public rankings or loot boxes.
  8. 1:14A family update you approve. Verified records, teacher approval, then a short weekly update for the parent, shared only as far as the student allows and never including their conversations.
  9. 1:21Safe by design: private conversations, permissions checked on the server, teachers decide, no ads and no selling of student data. Leaders see an audit log of what was allowed and denied, a safeguarding queue with no conversation text, and assessment mode that holds.
  10. 1:32Where the time comes back: a planning estimate of 90 minutes a week per teacher, about 57 hours a year each and about 2,280 hours across 40 teachers. These are planning assumptions, not measured results.
  11. 1:42Time back for every teacher. A companion for every student. Start with one class. Illustrative screens with fictional people and data. The companion is a scripted guide, not a language model.

Eight things it does, and what each one will not.

Each one below is the working software, cut down to fit this page. Try it. They run in your browser and nothing is saved.

A companion that guides

It will
Gives a clue, asks a question back, then sets a fresh check the student answers on their own.
It will not
Hand over the answer, or record mastery from anything except that independent check.
Not built yet
A language model. The companion is a scripted guide, so it can only say what was written for it.
  1. Companion: Hi Mia. This is Business Management, Unit 3. What are we working on?
  2. Student: Stock control. Question 4 is about how much to order.
  3. Companion: Good topic. Read the question once more and tell me in your own words what it is asking.
  4. Student: Just give me the answer.
  5. Companion: Let's find it together. What is the question asking you to work out?

A roll the teacher confirms

It will
Check-in signals suggest a state for each student. The teacher verifies each one and confirms the roll in seconds.
It will not
Turn a suggestion into attendance by itself. The roll cannot be confirmed until every student has a state.
Not built yet
Writing the confirmed roll to a school's own system. It stays in Schanion for now.
  • Alex TaylorCheck-in suggests present
  • Mia ChenCheck-in suggests present
  • Harper KellyCheck-in suggests absent
  • Sam RiveraCheck-in suggests present
  • Priya NairCheck-in suggests present
0 of 5 verified. The roll cannot be confirmed until every student has a state.

Catch-up after an absence

It will
Builds a short plan the moment an absence is confirmed, from the lesson materials the teacher published.
It will not
Invent a lesson. If nothing is published, it says so.
Harper was absent. Has the teacher shared the lesson?

Your teacher hasn't shared the lesson materials yet.

There is no plan to show, so none is made up. You will be told as soon as it is published.

A study plan that is kind

It will
Plans around SAC dates, evening limits and rest days, and tells the student what did not fit.
It will not
Squeeze in more than the limit the student set.
  • Business Management: SAC preparation40 min
  • Accounting: practice set30 min

Does not fit tonight. Moved to Saturday.

  • Legal Studies: reading25 min

Does not fit tonight. Moved to Saturday.

  • Economics: revise ratios20 min

60 of 60 minutes used. Fridays are a rest day, and SAC dates pull their revision forward.

A family update you approve

It will
Writes one short update a week from verified records, only as far as the student has chosen to share.
It will not
Send anything a teacher has not approved, or include a student's conversations.
Not built yet
Email and SMS. Updates appear inside Schanion for now.
Alex decides what a parent sees

Never their conversations with the companion.

Weekly update for Morgan

  • Alex has mastered 3 of 10 topics in Unit 3.
Draft. Waiting for the teacher.

Memory that belongs to the student

It will
Remembers how a student learns, shows every item, and lets them keep, correct or delete it.
It will not
Show that memory to teachers, parents or the school.
  • Prefers worked examples first
  • Finds ratio analysis tricky
  • Studies best before 8 pm

Effort and mastery, kept apart

It will
Rewards effort with XP, and records mastery only from independent checks.
It will not
Let XP turn into mastery, or use streaks, public rankings or loot boxes.
XP, for effort
1,240
Topics mastered, from independent checks
2 of 6

  • No streaks
  • No public rankings
  • No loot boxes

A school community a teacher reads first

It will
Gives students a wall for shout-outs, clubs, events, study groups and school council, with shared attendance goals, trophies, levels and rewards. Staff approve every student post before anyone sees it.
It will not
Allow private messages, photos or links, show anyone's attendance to other students, rank students against each other, or let nibs touch marks.

Try adding a phone number or a link, then send it.

The working screens.

These are screens from the demonstration, not mock-ups. Every person and mark in them is invented.

  • The student companion screen: a greeting, the chosen topic, and buttons for a clue, an explanation or a similar example. Fictional demonstration data.
The companionA student's private companion. It offers a clue, an explanation or a similar example, and says what it is using.
  • The teacher's roll for a Year 12 Business Management lesson, with suggested states from check-in signals and Present, Late and Absent buttons. Fictional demonstration data.
The rollCheck-in signals suggest a state. The teacher verifies, then confirms the roll.
  • The marking workspace: a student response with colour-coded highlights beside rubric criteria, a suggestion and a separate final mark. Fictional demonstration data.
Marking supportEvidence is highlighted against the rubric. The suggestion is kept apart from the mark the teacher sets.
  • A weekly family update written from school records, marked as approved by a teacher. Fictional demonstration data.
The family updateA short weekly update, drafted from verified records and approved by a teacher before a parent sees it.
  • The school community wall with news, a shared Year 12 attendance goal and shout-outs with stamps. Fictional demonstration data.
The school communityStaff read every student post first. Attendance goals are one number for a whole group.
  • The trophy page: levels named after pens, a pen colour picker and a trophy waiting to be collected. Fictional demonstration data.
Trophies and levelsTrophies, levels and nibs reward belonging. There are no streaks and no public rankings.
  • A student's two-year VCE pathway across their studies and units. Fictional demonstration data.
The VCE pathwayThe whole two years, by study, unit and topic, so a student sees what comes next.
  • The school leader's safety page with the AI policy, safeguarding queue and the permission matrix. Fictional demonstration data.
Permissions and safetyA live permission matrix, an audit log and a safeguarding queue that carries no conversation text.

How the whole thing fits together.

Everything in Schanion follows one path. Signals suggest, a person confirms, and only then is a record made. Nothing skips the middle.

  1. Signals suggest

Check-ins at the door, Practice evidence, Absences, Marking evidence.

  2. A teacher confirms

    They verify, edit or reject.

  3. Records are made

The roll, Marks, The catch-up plan, The family update.

What is real today

Everything you tried above runs in the product: sign-in with passwords, school setup, the roll, catch-up, marking evidence, study plans, memory and family updates, with an audit log behind all of it. The companion is a scripted guide written for each topic, not a language model.

What is not built yet

A language model. Email and SMS delivery. Sync to a school's own systems. Single sign-on and multi-factor sign-in. Schanion has had automated accessibility and safety tests, and has not yet had an independent security review or a trial in a real school.

Who can see what.

The rules are checked on the server, not hidden on screen, and every denial is logged. This is the table a school should read first.

Student information is never sold, used for advertising or used to train general-purpose models. A safeguarding concern reaches a person at the school and carries no conversation text.

What each person gets.

Students
Help in the moment that builds understanding, because it gives clues and checks rather than answers. A map of Units 1 to 4, so you always know where you are and what is next. Catch-up after an absence with exactly what your teacher shared. A study plan that respects your evenings and rest days. Mastery earned from independent checks only.
Teachers
Roll confirmation in seconds, with the check-in signals pre-filling the suggestions. Lesson materials published once, so every waiting student's catch-up updates. Marking evidence highlighted against your rubric, with Units 3 and 4 SAC marks suppressed by default. Class insight from evidence, without ever seeing private conversations. A family update drafted for your approval, never sent without it.
Parents and carers
One short, teacher-approved update each week, in plain language. When your child was away and whether their catch-up is ready. Upcoming SACs and the reminders you chose. You see what your child chooses to share, and never their conversations with the companion.
Faculty and school leaders
Attendance confirmed for every class, with follow-ups visible. A school-wide AI and safety policy that teachers can lower for a class and never raise. An audit log of allowed and denied actions, and a live permission matrix computed from the same rules the server enforces. A safeguarding queue that carries no conversation text. Only classes whose teachers join take part.

Built on the VCE commerce pathway.

Where the time comes back.

Most of the saving is the small, repeated work around teaching. Set your own numbers and see what it could come to. The starting figures are our planning assumptions to test in a pilot. They are not results.

Working: minutes saved per teacher each week. These are our planning assumptions, so change them.
  • Signals pre-fill suggestions and the teacher verifies and confirms.

  • Catch-up plans are created when an absence is confirmed, and one publish updates every waiting student.

  • Drafts come from verified records for the teacher to approve.

  • Evidence is highlighted against the rubric. The teacher still decides every mark.

  • Class summaries and exports come from records already confirmed.

The worked sum

  1. Minutes saved per teacher each week

    15 + 20 + 15 + 30 + 10 =90 min

  2. × 38 teaching weeks, ÷ 60

    57 hours each, each year

  3. × 40 teachers

2,280 hours about 300 working days

  4. × $60 an hour

    $136,800 of staff time

Every line multiplies the one above it. The minutes are planning assumptions, not measured results, and Schanion has not been trialled in a real school. A pilot should measure the real number before anyone relies on it.

Why we are building it, and what it costs.

Our mission and vision

A patient guide for every student and time back for every teacher, with a person deciding everything that becomes a record.
